Roof Ventilation

Everyone is looking for great ways to reduce their utility bills these days, and new options are springing up all the time.  As well as taking advantage of solar power, there are other ways to make your home more energy efficient.  Having appropriate attic ventilation can make a difference to the amount of heating or cooling you have to do in your home, which in turn will save you money over the course of the year.

Having proper attic ventilation will extend the life of your roof and minimize the chance of problems up there.  Ventilation works by helping remove heat and moisture, which will minimize the chance of mold growing or getting dry rot. Trapped heat and moisture will also lead to increased energy costs, as well as increasing the chance of ice dams and roof damage.  Attics can get as hot as 150° F, which is bad for things that are being stored up there.

A selection of household components can lead to condensation forming in your attic, including showers, bathtubs, washing machines, dishwashers and tumble driers.  Without proper ventilation, this condensation can eat away at the structure of the roof and can, at times, contain so much water that it looks like the roof is leaking.

The only way to avoid such problems is to install proper ventilation and therefore keep your roof in the best condition possible for as long as possible.
